Dear Sheila, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, City Council, etc.
First, I must apologize, I don't have everyone's correct emails or first names. If I have left off
someone in your group, please extend our thanks to those folks as well.
I am writing to you as the Vice Chair of Snowball Express. After very careful consideration
we are unable to promote your upcoming August water event to our local families.
Everyone at Snowball Express wants to express our deepest appreciation for everything you
have done and continue to do for our military personnel and their families. We are of course
especially grateful for your very generous support of our Snowball Express effort to help
provide fun new experiences and new memories for the children of our fallen post 9/11
heroes.
You were very kind to suggest we invite some of the Snowball Express families to your
upcoming river celebration. We know that you will have a joyous fun filled celebration, but
because many of our families have very young children and the mom's have limited
resources to keep an eye on sometimes multiple young ones, we think a large water event
presents challenges we at Snowball Express are not able to provide for. We truly hope you
will understand our board's decision in this regard.
When we had one child go temporarily missing for about 15 minutes this past winter at
Universal Studios, an on the ground event with more than a hundred Snowball Express
volunteers who, along with park employees, aided in reuniting that child, his sibling and
their mother, we realized that safety and security of our children was to become a
paramount issue for our young organization.
I hope you will understand how grateful we are to you and hope that as your community
does other civic events, perhaps rodeos, ball games or the like, where there is more
organization and less risk of separation and frankly here, where we cannot control what
level of water safety the kids might or might not have, we would be delighted to hear about
those events and promote them to our Snowball Express families as a Snowflake event in
your area.
Again, all of us at Snowball Express thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
