Department President Pauline Servin asked me to assist her this year as Chairman of Youth Activities. That is what this package of information is all about. We are here to assist you and provide you with information on suggested ways your Auxiliaries can contribute to the LAVFW Youth Activities Programs. Youth Activities encompasses many things. Youth Activities for 2010-2011 is all about "Providing opportunities for youth and educating them about our American heritage." Any and all events your Post can hold for children are encouraged. National asks that we place specific and concentrated attention on: (1) Youth Groups Supporting Our Military, (2) Young American Creative Patriotic Art, (3) Junior Girls Units, and (4) Junior ROTC. Understanding that creating the American spirit starts with the child and carries through to adulthood......these specific programs have been singled out by the Ladies Auxiliary VFW as holding the largest concentration on our core values. Youth Activities also includes but is not limited to: Boy and Girl Scouts, 4H Programs, sports teams, donations to Snowball Express, Adopt-a-Classroom, and the list goes on and on. Ladies Auxiliary members are encouraged to help our VFW veterans understand the importance of working together with the youth of our communities so our children can recognize them as true American heroes. By working with the young people in our communities, we teach them that we are "United by Love for Our Veterans and County" and show our youth that we promote “Hope for Our Veterans and Families." Thank you Comrades and Sisters… |
